The Great Brak River Conservancy will once again be playing host to the Garden Route Birds of Prey Rehab Centre at the Grootbrak Uitspan Market on Saturday the 5th of October. There will be a selection of live birds on exhibition as well as opportunity to interact and put questions to the knowledgeable experienced handlers. Such an opportunity to interact and come in close contact with these beautiful birds of prey does not occur often and this is not an opportunity to be missed.
Bringing the live Birds of Prey exhibit to the community is important as it provides an opportunity to educate as well as stimulate conservation interest. Birds of prey play a vital role within the environment and are often victims of poisonings, cultural taboos and beliefs that lead to their death. Through education, awareness and exposure the Conservancy aims to help eliminate some of these factors that negatively impact the long term survival of raptor species.
We cannot underestimate the importance of education…”For in the end, we will conserve only what we love, we will love only what we understand. We understand only what we are taught.”
The Garden Route Birds of Prey Rehab Centre is located next to the George Wildlife Park and open to the public for educational tours should you miss the opportunity of seeing the birds at the market. The centre has a constant flow of birds that are involved in their rescue, rehabilitation and release programs and is well worth the visit and your support.
