Dolphins Creek Golf Club held a sponsored golf day on Saturday 12th October. Lourens Jansen van Nieuwenhuizen from the Great Brak pub Frango’s organised this well attended individual stableford competition with 44 golfers taking part, a full field.
Thanks to all the many Great Brak businesses who sponsored prizes plus the main sponsors Hartmans Butchery, Gasto’s, and Tucker Golf who all contributed towards the food and 35 odd prizes handed out on the day. Frango’s gave each participant a wonderful lunchtime meal.
The day was organised to raise funds that will go towards upgrades to greens, t-boxes and the only dam on the course. Once sealed correctly, the dam will contribute greatly to the irrigation of the course. Local PGA Pro Golfer and coach Vaughn Tucker said that reducing its size would lengthen the fairway which will offer golfers more of a challenge in playing the long par 4 hole. Vaughn played at Dolphins Creek some 20 years ago and was struck by the great ‘gees’ of members.
The day was won by Zelda de Lange with 41 points, but you could also say that all competing golfers were winners, thanks Lourens for a great day celebrating this exhilarating, humbling, strange yet wonderful game of golf.
