The Youth Café has been running numerous programmes to up skill the unemployed community members. The need was however identified to schedule “after hours” courses to allow working folk to have the opportunity to make use of these services. During the last week of July, the first “after hours” course took place, with resounding success. A Basic Computer Literacy course, which already runs every other week during normal working hours, was introduced. The course ran from Monday to Friday evening from 5:30pm – 7:30pm. With the success that this first trial run experienced, the second after hour’s course has already been scheduled and is nearly fully booked.
In other news, the Youth Café is also going to run a sign language training course at the end of the year. It will be the second course of this nature and does not only equip members of the community to enhance communication with those with hearing impairments; it also raises the awareness of the day to day struggles of our fellow community members with hearing impairments.
