Record number take part in Grootbrak Grabadoo

Great Brak River, Mossel Bay – Garden Route – 1640 participants, 78% of whom hail from outside the Garden Route, took part in the Grootbrak Grabadoo on 31 December 2019. Besides the huge marketing value for Grootbrak, the economic contribution into the local economy is calculated at around R150 000.00.

The Great Brak Business Forum created a wonderful atmosphere in which local small businesses made use of the opportunity to sell their wares to the cyclists, runners and supporters alike.

One of the stalls was manned by CAWS4PAWS.  The Youth Café served delicious pancakes.  They, along with the Mayflower Cricket Club, were instrumental in the recruitment of officials who received training before the event.

Vodacom was once again the premier partner, with supporting partners Powerade, Thinus Nel Motors, De Dekke Spar, De Kaap Eiendomme, Mossel Bay Tourism, Eco Bound & Coimbra Cycle House.

Thinus Nel Motors vehicles contributed greatly towards road safety and assistance to ensure that the routes were all accessible and clearly marked.

Water tables were stocked by De Dekke Spar.

De Kaap Eiendomme and Coimbra Cycling handled the pre-entries.

Mossel Bay Tourism endorsed the event for the first time with active involvement in the pre-entries and they manned one of the water points and sponsored the buffs for the long-distance cyclists.

Frontier Medics were again on standby in case of medical emergencies.

Powerade continued its 17th year involvement with the event.

The Grootbrak Grabadoo is one of the most popular cycling events in the area and the perfect way to say goodbye to the old year.

Runners, walkers, families and even pets participated in the most beautiful walk in the Garden Route, South Africa, around the Great Brak River in a 4.8 km route.

Mountain bikers had a choice of 4 exciting routes which included some wonderful twists and turns in the forest – 15 km, 36 km, 53 km, and 71 km.

We celebrate each and every individual that participated.  May 2020 bring many joyful cycling and running experiences to all.
