RETURNING TO HIS ROOTS – PEPERBOOM’S NEW CHEF OWNER

Born and educated in George, Christo Nortier gained a wealth of experience internationally after working as chef for Jamie Oliver in London for eight years. He then moved to Dubai where he was employed by two well-known chefs, Antonio Carluccio and Gennaro Contaldo, for more than four years. In 2020 he decided to return to his roots in South Africa, specifically to Great Brak River as chef owner of Peperboom.

His vision is to support local businesses, working with the freshest possible ingredients. Based on requests from clients, he wants to open the restaurant for two nights a week in the near future. As a point of difference, he will be offering a creative tasting menu, pairing this with local wine and local gin. He would also like to change the day-to-day menus regularly to keep the dishes varied and exciting. Freshly baked breads, delicious pastries and sweets will be available daily.

“My passion is to work with chefs who have not been afforded the same opportunities as me. I would love to be able to share my knowledge with them and in the process, my clients, giving them flavoursome food combined with excellent service in a stylish atmosphere – and of course, at affordable prices!”
