The first event of the 2018 Eden Spur School MTB League season was held atKlipheuwel Trail Park in Klein Brak River on Saturday, 19 May 2018. With 212 riders representing 26 different schools from around the Southern Cape, the event has come a long way from only 7 riders at its inception 7 years ago.  The League series, which runs from May till September is all about establishing mountain biking as an official school sport by providing a platform on regional and national level.

With three separate courses marked out for different age groupsranging from 5 years to 18 years old, riders quickly took to the track to familiarize themselves with all the twists and turns while their supporters set themselves up in the feeding zone and various spectator points.  Sunny weather and no wind ensured that the day was a huge success and all were treated with some top class racing as riders battled it out to earn points for their respective schools. Thanks to the work done by a number of people behind the scenes, especially Juan Botes of Chain Gang Events who is the co-coordinator of the series and also Charl Gerber who has taken some really stunning photographs of the events.

Spur’s mobile kitchen along with coffee and pancake stands situated right next to the track ensured that nobody would miss any of the exciting racing of the day while Klipheuwel Padstal as well as Salty River Beerhouse were right next door to provide sit down meals as well as craft beers.

The next event will be at Oak Hill School in Knysna on 28 July 2018 on a brand new course.  More details and online entries may be done on www.chaingangevents.co.zawith pictures on the Eden Spur School MTB League Facebook page.
