The George Society of the Arts proudly presents – ‘Varieté Varieté’!

I was fortunate enough to get an invite to the dress rehearsal and it proved to be a lot of fun.

The production is a tribute to Broadway, the storyline weaves its merry way within a circus company in which the leading characters perform approximately 40 songs as individuals, pairs or large groups. The backdrop is carnival during which a lot of exuberant fun is being had. Some of the many songs are from Cats, Phantom of the Opera, Moulin Rouge, Les Misérables, Oliver Twist, Wizard of Oz and Evita sung together with cleverly choreographed energetic dancing and colourful circus acts.

The production moves fairly quickly, there are no major sets to change, the performers are in most instances the background set themselves. The stage is kept alive with, performers, singers, clowns, jesters, mimes and magicians, a lot is going on in front of you. Hats off to all involved in this wonderful home grown production!
