The change in a season has the potential to bring about change within us. At times transformation is a conscious decision, an unexpected life happening, the departure of a close friend, an inspiring moment.
I could not help but think what it would be like to express and perform kindness to those who cross my daily path in this season? First I had to get an even better understanding of the meaning of kindness.
Kindness is the quality of being friendly, generous, and
considerate towards others. It involves acting with empathy and compassion, often without expecting anything in return. Essentially, it’s about treating others with respect and care.
I soon realised that this is only possible if we know how to be kind-hearted towards ourselves. To acknowledge that we struggle with life happenings from time to time, that
we experience self-doubt, go through stressful periods, lose faith, get angry, short tempered, feeling lost and often overwhelmed.
Mastering kindness from within can then pave the way forward in sharing compassion with those by whom we are surrounded.
Here are a few ideas on how to act with kindness: Offer a smile or a greeting to the people around us, those we know, or even to a stranger. Offer help – whether it’s holding the door, carrying groceries, or drive someone to an appointment. Listen actively. Sometimes, just being there to listen can be the best way to show kindness. Express gratitude by thanking people for their efforts and let them know you appreciate them.
Compliment others by giving genuine Compliments. It can boost someone’s confidence and mood. Be patient by understanding and being extra kind, especially in stressful
situations. Become a volunteer and give your time to a causes or organisations that need help.
In essence, kindness starts with a small intentional act of compassion and understanding, which can create a ripple effect, hopefully inspiring others to take action and follow suit. It does not take much but can have such a profound effect on others, a community, a city, and the world.
Can we dare not to give it our best effort?
