Substance Abuse Awareness Campaigns and Sign Language Training

,

Wonderful SA started the new year with a bang, both out loud and also signed out for our hearing impaired friends and neighbours in our community!

In partnership with DeafNet Centre of Knowledge and the Mossel Bay Municipality, we hosted a week-long, Sign Language training session during January and February. More than 40 people participated and are now empowered to communicate better with those suffering a hearing impairment.

Because the training is accredited, it also opens doors to employment opportunities in schools, home care and other environments for those that completed the training.

In another very successful partnership with the Mossel Bay Municipality, we had 2025’s first Substance Abuse Awareness Campaign in Mossel Bay and the surrounding areas.
Mossel Bay, the Overnight Shelter, Detention Centres, Buisplaas, Herbertsdale, Friemersheim, Toekoms, Grootbrak and Extension 13 were all visited by some amazing people.

Awareness was created for the services and assistance
available, both for those struggling with substance abuse themselves, or those with friends or family caught up in a vicious cycle.

With the theme of Taking Back My Power, the campaign was powerful and moving. We heard many testimonies shared, words of encouragement spoken and there was some good entertainment as well.

Lastly, our annual Greatbrak Miss Youth Café event is coming up. Do keep an eye out for information on our social media pages about this exciting event!

As we always do, we extend a warm invitation to each and all to reach out to us or pop in to our facility for a coffee and a chat.
