TOKENS VIR ’N TOEKOMS

As some of our regular followers will know, March turned out to be quite the month for the Youth Café and WSA. Not only did we have our normal range of exceptional courses and programs, and partnered with the Mossel Bay Municipality to host a Human Rights Day event on “Breaking the Criminal Cycle”, but we also are so proud to report back on the launch of our Tokens vir ’n ToekomsProject.

A joint brainchild of a few community members working together, the Tokens project was launched on Saturday 11 March with a Boerewors Braai at De Dekke Spar. The concept made waves as far and wide as Paarl and even Limpopo.

The basic idea behind the project is for members of our community, holidaymakers or anyone else that wants to support what we do, to buy a token (or multiple tokens) from De Dekke Spar, and have these ready for any encounters with some of the most vulnerable in our community, be it a child or adult, beggar or homeless person, or simply someone you would like to bless with a hearty meal. The recipient then brings their token to the Youth Café, where we prepare a delicious, nutritious meal for them, and it gives us a chance to engage with them, hear their story, and, if we can, empower them to join a training course and invest in themselves, or simply to have a moment of fun.

While the project is only a month old, we have some incredible testimonies of who we connected with, and whose lives have been touched by this project through a meal or by being roped in to have some silly fun at the Youth Café.

So please, instead of giving money or having a very negative interaction (or by doing your best to ignore those most vulnerable among us), buy a token at Spar, bless someone with it, and direct them to come and join us at the Youth Café.

For those that do not frequent our local Spar all that often, but that would still like to contribute, please visit our website at www.wonderfulsa.co.za to see how you can make a contribution.
